Confused.com querying Direct Line
by Kay Murchie
According to research by Deloitte & Touche LLP, Direct Line is declaring that it is the UK’s most competitive major insurer. However, Confused.com, the online comparison site, is questioning this as the research shows that Direct Line’s premiums fall outside the top 3 cheapest quotes for 75% of consumers.
The recently published Deloitte Quarterly Motor Insurance Market Report shows that across a range of 1000 customer profiles, Direct Line were the cheapest only 78 times - less than 8% of the time.
Furthermore, the report does not include many of the UK’s most competitive insurers and brokers, including Swinton, Admiral, Quinn, SAGA and the Budget Group.
A spokesperson for Confused.com commented that, by broadcasting this report, Direct Line are indicating that 9 out of 10 customers will find cheaper car insurance elsewhere. In addition, if this report covered 100% of the insurance market, Direct Line would surely drop below the current level of 8% for competitiveness.
