Halifax surveys seaside towns
Halifax Estate Agents is encouraging homeowners with dreams of a seaside villa by identifying the UK’s top 20 seaside towns.
The estate agent has established its findings by using a number of indicators to take into account quality of life and value for money.
The three towns most highly rated for quality of life are Christchurch in Dorset, Leigh-on-Sea in Essex and Bexhill-on-Sea in Sussex.
At the same time, all 20 seaside towns identified by the Halifax offer a quality of life ranking them within the top 50% of all towns in the country.
Nine towns offering the best quality of life also have an average house price below the national average of approximately £200,000.
Lowest average prices are to be found at Bridlington (£139,645), Lowestoft (£141,878) and Great Yarmouth (£142,860).
Nine of the ten most expensive seaside towns are in the South West of the country.
Sandbanks in Dorset is the UKs most expensive seaside town, with an average house price of £488,761, followed by Padstow in Cornwall (£334,385) and Milford on Sea in Hampshire (£326,277).
Prices in the average seaside town are normally above the average for their county.
However, there are 16 seaside towns where the cost of a home is at least 20% less than the average house price in the town’s county.
Seven of these are to be found in the South East of England, with the remainder in the North, Yorkshire & the Humber and East Anglia.
The discount is at its greatest in two Kent seaside towns: Margate (30%), followed by Dover (29%).
