Motor insurance certificates via email
by Kay Murchie
Jim Fitzpatrick MP, road safety minister, has said that drivers are to receive their motor insurance certificates via email. The announcement was made by the Association of British Insurers’ (ABI) Motor Conference.
The announcement has been welcomed by the ABI who has been calling for a change in the law and claims that it will bring significant benefits for motorists. Furthermore, email is better for the environment and will also save the insurance industry between £5 million and 10 million a year.
Gocompare.com, the financial comparison website, also welcomed the move and said that drivers would no longer have to wait around to receive their insurance certificates after purchasing a new car.
Justin Jacobs, the ABI’s assistant director of property, motor and liability said the announcement will have significant benefits for motorists. Enabling the use of the latest technology will improve customer service and will bring insurance technology into line with other industries.
