New student travel insurance launched by American Express
by Kay Murchie
American Express has launched a Gap travel insurance plan for students.
The insurance policy allows students to return to the UK for up to 14 days during their gap year so they won’t miss out on family occassions. The policy also offers the choice of extending cover for up to 2 years for those wanting to take a longer trip.
In addition, the extended policy option means ‘gappers’ can take advantage of changes in Australia’s working visa regulation which now allows UK nationals to work in Australia for up to 2 years.
Joanne Field of American Express Insurance Services said that over the last 5 years, gap insurance has been one of the fastest growing insurance products and we are pleased to be able to launch this unique, bespoke insurance product.
Ms Field continued that until now, gap insurance only allowed gap travellers to break their trip in an emergency, now they can return home for a special family occasion.
Other benefits of the policy include cover for legal advice and expenses, accident cover, protection for cancellation and curtailment as well as cover in the event of lost of stolen bags and missed departing or connecting flights.
