Kwik-fit and Swiftcover most competitive motor insurance providers

A new study by price comparison website, moneysupermarket.com, has revealed that Kwik-Fit and Swiftcover are the most competitive car insurance providers.

The biggest improver was Endsleigh, who went from 47th to the 6th most competitive provider.

Over the last 12 months, moneysupermarket.com analysed 12 million quotes on their car insurance channel and established that Kwik-Fit and Swiftcover consistently provided the cheapest average premiums for all motorists at just below £277.

Peter Gerrard, head of insurance research at moneysupermarket.com, highlighted the importance of shopping around to obtain the best car insurance deal.

He explained that increased competition can only be good news for motorists facing rising petrol prices.

Smaller online insurers are being very nimble on price due to their lower overheads, added Mr Gerrard.

However, some of the major companies like Admiral and RAC, are committed to offering consistent good value, even though they weren’t quite able to pip Kwik-Fit and Swiftcover to the no. 1 spot.

Mr Gerrard advises motorists not to be hasty when renewing policies. Some insurers include discounts on the first year of a policy to entice motorists, hoping they will stay with them when the first year comes to an end.

There is nothing stopping drivers from changing their insurer each year and always taking advantage of the most competitive premium. There is no substitute for spending a few minutes comparing quotes online and finding the best deal for your needs, concluded Mr Gerrard.
