Countrywide mounts end-of-year property sale
by Gill Montia
Estate agency network, Countrywide, is mounting and three day end-of-year property sale, from tomorrow (Thursday).
According to a report in The Times, around 7,500 vendors across the UK are taking part, offering properties worth a collective £1.65 billion.
Some homeowners have cut prices by up to 30% while others, who have already made reductions, are shaving much less off asking prices.
Countrywide’s 1,000 strong branch network will be offering homes from as little as £50,000 to in a move that aims to kick-start local property markets.
The timing of the sale looks promising because earlier this week, the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (Rics) reported that prospective purchasers are returning to the market.
In its November survey the body found that 14% more of its members recorded a rise in buyer inquiries, than a fall.
The Rics attributes the shift to a surge in bargain hunters as prices continue to fall and repossessions rise; the sharpest increases were seen in the South West and the West Midlands.
Countrywide operates around 30 estate agency brands as either subsidiaries or franchises. The names include Bairstow Eves, Entwhistle Green, Gascoigne Pees, John D Wood, Mann and Wilson Peacock.
