Winter holiday luggage more valuable, says travel insurer
by David Masters
Winter holiday luggage is more valuable than its summer holiday counterpart, according to new research released by Saga Insurance.
The average contents of a winter holiday suitcase are worth £238 more than for a summer holiday.
Eight per cent of Brits take a winter holiday, and travel with an average of £643 worth of luggage. By contrast, those travelling in the summer pack an average of only £405.
Some insurers - Saga included - offer extra cover for winter breaks to insure equipment such as golf clubs or skis.
Despite the high potential cost of losing a suitcase, only one in ten travellers keep receipts in case they need to claim for lost or stolen items.
Keeping receipts is helpful for insurers and customers if a baggage claim needs to be made, Saga said.
