Bupa has reported significant growth in sales of its individual protection policy.

Sales increased across Bupa’s critical illness, income protection, and life assurance products during 2008.

The insurer posted a 38% increase in new business annual premiums for the year.

This is compared to growth of 25% in 2007, and comes alongside news that the cost to Bupa of critical illness cover has reduced by an average of 3%.

Steve Casey, Bupa’s head of product development and marketing, said: “To report a 38 per cent increase in such unpredictable economic times is credit to our supporting intermediary partners, the quality of our products and our continued commitment to innovation.”

He added that Bupa will continue to develop its products with the aim of increasing sales again during 2009.
