M&S 125th birthday sale offers products for 1p

As part of its 125th birthday celebrations, Marks and Spencer will go back to its original roots as a penny bazaar and offer a range of 20 products that are available for just 1p in a three day sale.

Sir Stuart Rose, the M&S chairman, said that the chain has been at the centre of the UK high street and, although it has been a tough year for the chain, the celebrations aim to give the consumers a treat.

As part of the sale, there are a range of products available from jewellery sets, scarves, purses, underwear, cufflinks, ties and socks, as well as summer products such as beach toys and beach balls.

The Original Penny Bazaar lines will be sold on a first come first served basis with 2 million one-penny products available, the takings will be donated to the M&S 125 Charity Challenge.

The promotion will begin on Wednesday 20 May and run through to Friday 22 May and will be launched by Twiggy at the Marble Arch store on Oxford Street, London. Sir Stuart is urging people to get there as early as possible.

It is hoped that the sale will increase footfall in stores and that the charity initiative will help drive sales.

M&S started life in 1884 as a Penny Bazaar.

You have mistyped the date on the article related to M&S’s Penny Bazaar. Wednesday is 20th May and Friday is 22nd, so I’m not sure if I should go by the day or the date!!! just thought you might want to correct it! :)
