Brits declare regional pride

Two thirds of Brits are proud of the region in which they live, according to a poll by Halifax Home Insurance.

North-east England is the proudest region, with 73% of Brits living here feeling regional pride.

Wales came in second place, with 71% declaring pride for their homeland.

The East Midlands was the least proud, with just 45% of residents asserting pride for their region.

“In difficult times, it’s heartening to see the strength of pride that we have for where we live,” said Martyn Foulds of Halifax Home Insurance.

Key factors that invoke a sense of pride for Brits include being close to family and loved-ones (60%), feelings of safety and security (47%), and accessible local amenities (37%).

A quarter (24%) of those polled feel pride at their areas rich history and traditions, whilst a similar number (24%) enjoy the strong sense of community spirit in their region.

“Being able to enjoy your home and surroundings is a hugely important factor,” Foulds said.

The poll of 2,000 British adults also found that Brits prefer spending time in the comfort of their own home rather than at the shops or the pub.
