RBS offers customers free security software
Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) and NatWest have unveiled greater security protection for their online banking customers.
Customers of banks in the RBS Group, including RBS, NatWest, and Ulster Bank, will now be protected from hackers, viruses, and Trojans with Rapport security software.
The software offers additional security on top of anti-virus and firewall packages, giving warnings of phishing attacks, and preventing Trojans from stealing valuable personal information.
Online communications between RBS banks and their customers are also protected by the software.
RBS Group is the first banking group in the UK to offer the new software. Customers can download Rapport free from their bank’s website.
“RBS Group is committed to providing the most secure online banking environment possible and has taken considerable steps over the past few years to warn customers about online fraud and encourage them to take appropriate steps to protect themselves online,” said RBS e-crime prevention manager Gavin Coull.
“Rapport is fast to download and easy to install, but most importantly it allows us to quickly and effectively react to emerging threats,” Coull added.
“It also enhances the effectiveness of our existing card reader security.”
Ninety percent of RBS and NatWest customers have already downloaded the software.
