Holiday season heats up travel insurance
by David Masters
Record numbers of holidaymakers are searching for the best deals on travel insurance at price comparison website Confused.com.
Travel insurance enquires at the site are up 63% compared to this time last year – a trend Confused.com expects to see continue throughout the summer.
Single trip insurance is proving the most popular, with seven in ten holidaymakers budgeting carefully by searching out cover for a specific holiday rather than a full year.
Confused.com believes the upsurge in enquires is largely due to concerns over swine flu.
“It’s likely that the increased level of interest in travel insurance is in-part due to the high profile swine flu situation,” said Steve Williams, Confused.com head of travel insurance.
“It’s clear is that consumers are becoming more aware of the benefits and peace of mind travel insurance can bring.”
Williams added that travellers looking for a bargain should search around for the best insurance deal online rather than purchasing cover from their travel agent.
