Home insurance can cover holidays too

Brits saving cash by staying on the Isle of Blighty for their summer holidays should check whether their home insurance policy covers equipment they take on holiday with them, Age Concern Insurance Services (ACIS) said this week.

With the number of home-grown holidays set to increase 20% this year, ACIS warned that many insurers only offer cover on contents away from home as an optional extra.

“We are reminding all holidaymakers to take extra care when taking a break and check that their home insurance policy covers them appropriately [while] away from the home,” said Joe Young, ACIS spokesperson.

Insurance covering items left at home is equally important, Young added.

“We understand just how tempting it can be to chuck everything in the car and head off on holiday for a few days.

“It’s all too easy to let your guard down and leave valuable possessions on display or in a place where they can be easily stolen.”

Malcolm Tarling, at the Association of British Insurers, said: “Making sure your home is secure while you are away, and checking your insurance cover, will ensure that you remember your holiday for all the right reasons.”

All ACIS profits go directly to Age Concern and Help the Aged charities.
