Brits ditch foreign holidays for staycations
by David Masters
As the recession continues through the summer many British holidaymakers are choosing to stay in the UK rather than travel overseas.
Research by insurance provider LV= found that Brits choosing UK holidays are planning to save an average £247 per person by ditching their trip abroad.
A quarter of the working population will take their main holiday in the UK this summer, LV= found.
Five million of those polled said they’re choosing a British holiday because they can’t afford to travel overseas.
Scotland is the most popular UK destination, followed by Wales, Cornwall, Devon, and Yorkshire.
LV= spokesperson John O’Roarke said: “The current economic climate is impacting most people in some way and our research suggests that a holiday abroad this year is something many families plan to postpone until at least next year, in a bid to watch the pennies.”
LV= insures 3.5 million customers in the UK, including 480,000 home insurance customers and 1.6 million motor insurance customers.
