highlights student burglary risk

Student households are more than twice as likely to be burgled compared to the average home, has revealed.

The price comparison website released the figure as thousands of new students prepare for their first term at university. also said students shouldn’t assume their possessions are covered on their parents’ home insurance policy.

“Separate policies should be bought which reflect the amount of contents being taken to university,” the site said in a statement.

“Even if the student is covered in their parents’ policy, it is often not to the same level of cover as a separate policy would be.”

Other advice issued to students by the price comparison group included choosing a home with a burglar alarm and window locks to reduce home insurance premiums, and shopping around for the cheapest energy supplier to save money on utility bills.
