Abbey will be giving away £50 every hour next month in a Facebook prize draw.

The £36,000 prize draw, open to anyone with a Facebook profile, has been set up to promote the £50 cash bonus given to students opening a new Abbey Student Account.

“This free prize draw is a great opportunity for students and others to get some extra and unexpected money into their back pocket,” said Gillian Almond, head of Abbey current accounts.

The Abbey Student Account offers a tiered interest-free overdraft of up to £2,000, and a 2% in-credit interest rate on balances of up to £500.

“We know that money is pretty hard to come by when you are a student, which is why we provide £50 in cash and a very good in-credit interest rate on our Student Account,” Almond added.

“There is also an interest free overdraft to help with initial outgoings, or unexpected living costs.”

A recent poll by Abbey found students have worked 6.8 million unpaid hours this summer to improve their job prospects.
