Social lives “hit hard” by recession

Many UK adults have had their social lives “hit hard” by the credit crunch, moneysupermarket.com claimed this week.

Two-thirds (65%) of those polled by the price comparison site said they’re more likely to stay in since the recession started.

Eleven percent said they’re holding more house parties such as barbecues and ‘Come Dine With Me’ style dinners, spending an average of £22 per head.

Julie Owens, moneysupermarket.com spokesperson, said the belt-tightening comes as “no surprise”.

“The research reveals our social lives have been hit hard by the recession, with two-thirds of us admitting to staying in more,” Owens said.

“There’s a chance we’ll see this increase further, especially as the autumn nights set in and we head towards winter,” she added.
