Unethical businesses will lose competitive edge
Businesses need to start behaving ethically or risk losing customers, a consumer trends specialist claimed this week.
James Alexander, founder of online marketplace Zopa, said businesses that fail to develop ethical values will struggle to attract and maintain customers in the future.
“Companies need to be aware that their customers want them to behave responsibly towards the community and the environment,” Alexander said.
“Information is freely available over the internet, society is more aware of ethical issues, such as the shortage of key resources like food and oil, and global events like the recession have made people more suspicious of businesses, institutions and governments.
“Today’s customer is highly sophisticated and well informed – they make purchases on their own terms.”
Alexander made the comments ahead of seminars he will be holding in Wales to help Welsh businesses get a competitive edge.
“The seminars are held throughout Wales and they’re designed so attendees gain genuine practical value from them,” said Welsh Assembly deputy minister for skills John Griffiths.
“James Alexander has an impressive track record and we’re confident he will help Welsh businesses enhance their operations.”
Zopa allows people to lend and borrow money to one another online without the need for banks.
