Report reveals improvement in jobs market
A report by the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) and KPMG has revealed February was the seventh consecutive month in which permanent places rose.
According to the report, more full-time jobs were added in February than at any time since July 2007.
The index, which is produced by Markit for the REC and KPMG, grew from 60.5 to 63.2 in February – any reading above 50 represents growth.
However, while the report found that that temporary placements also rose during the month, it was the slowest rate for three months. The temporary placements index fell to 57.9 from 59.
“The latest figures seem to confirm that the UK jobs market is on the road to recovery,” said KPMG’s head of business services, Bernard Brown.
“However, this all comes with one big warning – the impact of the inevitable public sector recession on the jobs market has yet to be felt, and will be played out over the next six months,” he added.
The report also warned the forthcoming general election poses a “major threat” to public sector jobs.
