CBI’s Richard Lambert to step down

Richard Lambert, the Director General of Britain’s largest business organisation, the Confederation of British Industry (CBI), has announced he will step down in 2011 – when his five-year term ends.

Mr Lambert has been with the lobby group since July 2006 when he replaced Sir Digby Jones.

He was previously a member of the Bank of England’s Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) and was editor of the Financial Times.

Commenting on his decision, Mr Lambert said: “Now is the right time in the political and economic cycle for me to hand over to a new director general.

“The economy is moving into a new phase, in which business and trade will be the essential engines of recovery,” he added.

However, a replacement has yet to be found and the CBI said it has appointed headhunters, Saxton Bampfylde, to commence the search for a new Director General.
