The Co-operative Financial Services and Ecclesiastical Investment Management were named yesterday as sponsors of the third annual National Ethical Investment Week (NEIW).

NEIW 2010, on 7-13 November, is a series of events and other activities across the UK to raise awareness of green and ethical investment options.

UKSIF, the sustainable investment association behind NEIW, said the problems BP is facing at the moment have helped to highlight the need for ethical investment.

“Consumers are increasingly aware of the impact of their investments and the opportunity for their finance and investment decisions to have a positive long term impact,” said Penny Shepherd, UKSIF chief executive.

“Modern green and ethical investment is now an attractive choice for mainstream investors.”

Tim Franklin, chief operating officer at The Co-operative Financial Services, agreed that interest in ethical investment is growing.

“In the current climate, there is a groundswell of interest from consumers, businesses and others in the need for ethical and responsible finance and investment,” Franklin said.

“NEIW provides an ideal opportunity to showcase how responsible finance is addressing some of our most pressing challenges, be it climate change or global poverty, and the options that this presents for consumers.”

Sue Round, head of investments at Ecclesiastical Investment Management, added: “As a company with deep roots in socially responsible investment, Ecclesiastical Investment Management believes that NEIW provides a real opportunity to highlight the benefits of taking an ethical approach to finance.”
