UK Q4 GDP figures to be published today

The initial reading of fourth quarter economic growth will be published today by the Office for National Statistics (ONS).
Analysts expect growth to have slowed significantly to 0.2% in the quarter, down from 0.7% in the third quarter and 1.1% in the April to June period.
Today’s estimate, however, is the first of three and could be revised upwards or downwards in the coming months since at this stage, only 40% of the data is available.
Economic growth is expected to slow considerably over the next few quarters due to the Government’s massive spending cuts.
However, a double dip recession is unlikely, according to experts. Should growth slow significantly in the coming months, there is a possibility that the Bank of England may restart its quantitative easing (QE) scheme to boost growth within the economy.
The ONS will publish the figures at 9.30am.
