UK manufacturing output sees fall in December

| February 10, 2011 | 0 Comments

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) has today revealed UK manufacturing output fell in December - due to the severe wintry weather during the month.

However, the coldest December for a century resulted in a sharp rise in energy production leading to an overall rise in output.

According to the ONS, manufacturing output fell 0.1% in December after November’s 0.6% gain.

Analysts had expected a 0.4% rise for December.

However, overall industrial production, which also includes utilities, mining and quarrying, rose 0.5%.

The figures will be a welcome boost after services and construction activity fell due to the adverse weather conditions at the end of last year.
