German inflation up in January

Statistics office Destatis has today announced German inflation rose to 2% in January - slightly higher than a previous estimate of 1.9%
The rise was attributed to higher energy costs.
On a monthly basis, meanwhile, prices fell 0.5% after increasing 1.2% in December.
The figures come as many economies battle with rising inflation on the back of soaring food prices.
Meanwhile, in a statement, Destatis said: “The inflation rate in January 2011 thus reached the threshold of two percent, which is important for monetary policy.”
