Argos Pet Insurance Review

by Oliver Thompson

Argos Pet Insurance

Argos is one of the UK’s largest and well known retail stores.

They have only recently diversified into selling different types of insurance.

Argos Pet Insurance offers the following benefits:

- Free access to both a legal and vet advice helpline
- Older pets vet fees are covered with no maximum age limit
- Help if your pet goes missing
- Three levels of cover available to suit your needs and budget
- 5% discount when you buy online

It also comes with the following significant terms:

- A £60 excess for vets fees
- A £100 excess for 3rd party liability and accidental damage claims
- No cover for pre-existing conditions

Argos Customer Experiences

In general, Argos Pet Insurance customers are extremely satisfied with the service.

As with any insurance, however, there are complaints. For the most part, these are concerned with the cost of renewal going up much higher than expected at the end of the twelve months. Many customers sign up to the insurance under an attractive introductory monthly fee which is unusually low. This may explain why many are surprised at the renewal cost being so much higher.

However, most customers praise Argos for being both quick and efficient. Some even boast receiving cheques within a couple of weeks of making the claim.

Others report that they are extremely happy with the way Argos handle their claim – offering a polite and friendly service with little or no quibbles. Customers are generally pleased with the ‘down to earth’ manner of the helpline staff.

Customers claiming for pets with complicated and costly conditions are surprised at how easy Argos put the claim through. It seems whether your cat needs a bandage or an operation, Argos will not make the process to complicated or costly.

Many customers are also happy to see their premiums remain low, rising only with inflation, even following a costly operation and claim.

Overall Review for Argos Pet Insurance

In terms of cost, Argos Pet Insurance is around middle of the range, but the service you pay for is above standard.

Their signing up process is easy, they are quick to resolve claims and they keep the whole process simple and speedy.

Perhaps the most appealing characteristic of this service, however, is the helpfulness and friendliness of the Argos helpline staff.

All in all, this is certainly worth looking into if you are seeking top notch pet insurance.

  1. Having been told on the phone last year that my dog – platinum cover – would be eligible for a second hip replacement and was covered with £7,000 of lifetime insurance annually, I now find that after having it done i’ve been told he is not covered. The conversation was recorded by Argos and took place on 29/12/2010 @ appx. 11.0am.
I am now going through the lengthy process of trying to claim via their complaints system and if that fails the Financial Ombudsman.
Why employ staff who don’t know what they are talking about and how on earth I am supposed to find the £6,000 for my surgeon is beyond me.
