not-so-good book
have you ever encountered a not-so-good book which kinda got you frustrated? or have you started reading a book and lost interest along the way?
i read from hearts in atlantis that reading a book is much like flailing a pump. you have to exert effort in working the pump before the pump gives water to you. so you have to exert the effort of reading a book before it gives back knowledge, ideas, etc. to you.
it was also in that book that stephen king's character said that if you're reading a book, which you find boring or which at some point you feel like stopping and not finishing it, you must give the book a chance and read at least 10% of it. you may find it interesting after the first 10% of it but if still, you don't feel like finishing the book, then it's alright not to continue with it. the irony of it all is i didn't read beyond the first 10% of hearts in atlantis. although the plot and the characters are interesting, it really felt like a chore reading the book..at least i gave it a chance...
sorry for the wrong thread title...i couldn't erase it....
