Default Companies listing in several Stock Exchange

I'm currently conducting a research on Rio Tinto in attempt to evaluate its share price. I come to realise that Rio Tinto is listed in NYSE, LSE, and ASX. However, I fail to understand the motives for the company in listing into several stock exchanges. Can someone explains the benefit of listing in several stock exchanges?
