In the US here, it looks as if Congress is looking into the fees charged by and all the practices of credit card companies. The companies seem to be really taking advantage of people here.
GOOD! They are doing the same in Canada because people are complaining A LOT about the service fees on ATM machines for debit cards. So people must be complaining loud enough that they are doing something about it...having meetings etc.
The credit card and bank companies have strong lobby groups. It's amazing that the government is looking into it at all. For me it is a double edged sword. The fees may be extreme, but poeple shouldn't be borrowing what they aren't paying. On the other side, the lenders should have MUCH stricter standards for who they will lend money to, or else they should charge less when they don't get their money on time.
