Default Currency Exchange

I would like to know what the best way is to transfer money to another currency. Is it possible to but the currency I want to exchange to using some currency investment site and then have the funds transferred into an account abroad or do they charge too much commission.

Is the best method to just send a large sum through a normal bank so that you pay the transfer fee once.

I would like to send money to Bangladesh as a currency trader from British pounds.
