Not too long ago we were forced to receive new debit cards and PINs for our checking account due to a huge data breach in the Marshalls/TJ Maxx corporation. Apparently this affected huge numbers of people and banks internationally. Does anyone know whether or not there has been evidence that the data was ever used illegallly? We've been lucky in terms of our account but I wasn't sure about others.

It's a really serious situation - it's a bit hard to figure how such a big company could allow such a big security breach.

I think it's a matter of the software that was developed for the company having flaws in it. It's not at all uncommon for a lot of software to have cracks in it that the right person could get into if he tried hard enough.
