According to Age Concern, many elderly people are unable to live on their pension and, therefore, are being forced to return to work. Helen Spinney of Age Concern said that many people realise that their retirement income is not as much as they had anticipated so they are continuing to work beyond the state pension age, [...]

I think for them to go back to work is a good thing. It helps to keep them active.

Not when they have been spending their entire life working. And finally when they have had enough of being in the competitive job marekt the state or whatever pension system they have leaves them below the poverty level. Or am I mistaken that the employment market needs 70-90 years olds? There are more ways to be active than sending them back out into the workforce...

I think the way we treat older people is pretty disgusting, really - we learned as kids about our grandparents fighting against the Nazi's in the war, then learn as adults how impoverished this generation is. Pretty sad, really.
