Default FTSE 100 below 5100?

Any chance the FTSE 100 going to drop below 5100?
Price seems to bounce backed up a little along with oil price drop yesterday.

Yep, went down today - sat and watched the banking stocks tank - then drag themselves back up.

However, I think we will see the FTSE 100 go down below 5000 before the Autumn.

2c and welcome.

I personally think we will be beginning to see the the bottom when the oil bubble pops, obviously this won't be back to old levels due to increased demand but I think it will be a sizable drop.

This will lead to a short crash in bank prices (who are hedging with oil and commodities) pulling the market down followed by a rally in the banking industry as the BOE will be in a better position to fight inflation. I reckon when this happens we will bve nearing the end of the problems (in the markets, probably not for the real economy).

Thanks guys
Yea brian, i saw that too... scary drop
At first i thought 5200 (15/07/08) was bad enough, but seems to bounce a little bit and drop hard.

theplater, when you reckon the oil bubble is going to pop?
seems oil price going out of control, & i thought yesterday's quick drop was a sign of the bubble blast, but obviously not...

I think it's MS who stated that commodities have now peaked - and then oil dropped sharply yesterday.

Looks like the stock markets are on a breather, but there's still room for further falls as the impact of the credit crunch is still working itself through.

I'm seeing oil continue to drop and the financial sector making a recovery. Heck, UK banks have been wild over the past week - anyone who invested last Wednesday would be laughing their arses off now. Unfortunately, I was a couple of days late, so I'm just smiling.
