My question here is what happens to all those aged 25 and up who have been out of work fo0r a significant amount of time?

it doesnt seem fair to concentrate on one area of the population does it?

I can see that it looks quite unfair but students are very vunerable during this recession because they have a lack of workplace experience. If you had to employ someone would you choose candidate a: got the qualifications and two years of experience of the role or candidate b: got the qualifications ?

There is a lot of competition when it comes to searching for jobs and employers are more likely to take on someone with more experience in the actual workplace despite graduates being a cheaper option.

Though age discrimination occurs when it comes to older individuals too. Older individuals can find it equally as tough to become employed. Has anyone seen any schemes to help older people? Or any workshops/careers advice being offered to them?? Perhaps the government should focus on the other end of the scale too?

I guess youngsters are priority and a group to be focused on. As long as the rest of the UK is not forgotten!

The media has been quite the bringer of doom and gloom when it comes to graduate jobs - always reporting how the numbers of jobs available are dropping and companies aren't recruiting. Though I don't think the picture is as bad as it is painted... The media has failed to mention how smaller companies are still eagerly wanting gradutes on board. There are still many companies out there who want a slice of the graduate talent. It is irrational to think that there are no jobs out there for youngsters.

Do you think all these media reports could have spurred the government on a little too far? I hear of a lot of projects and job creations where the jobs are aimed specifically at 18-24 year olds. While we need to help them... are we helping possibly a little too much??
