Default Help

Hello Guys,

I am a newbie to investing, its something I have always wanted to get in to and as I will be 18 in May, I want to get started straight away before heading to University, so when I am there I can continue to invest and will have some previous knowledge.

Up to now, I haven't really had sufficient funds to invest (plus my age makes it a problem) but, I have £5,500 coming to me shortly after my 18th birthday from a claim my parents made when I was much younger.

I just want to know what is the best use for that sum of money?

Could someone give me an idea what sort of % Interest i could make a month/year, if I gave it to a fund management company.
Is this the best use, if so what company would you recommend?

I am willing to take a medium risk on it.

Any advice on what to do with it will be welcome.

Thanks

Gregg

Hi Gregg, and welcome to the Finance Markets forums.

Apologies as well, as your post got caught by the anti-spam filters, though not sure why.

As for the question - I think your big problem is that you don't have an investment strategy in place. It would be much more ideal to read up on investing - maybe read the Dummies Guide to Investing (UK version) and at least get an idea of the different areas open to you.

Additionally, you need to determine your goals - are you planning to leave the cash for 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50 years? What is it going to be used for? Begin to answer that question, and you can begin to look at the options you researched much better IMO.

Hope that helps.
