Default In search of knowledge about mutual funds

I am a college student soon to graduate and i'm only twenty but i have been supporting myself for the last two years by working hard, sacraficing wants for needs, and making responsible financial decisions. I also have some money put away which i dont intend to just throw into a car or a house i want to invest it so that someday i can spend it on those wants. I have heard of mutual funds and have heard they are relatively safe but as far as how they work or how to invest in them i have no knowledge. if anyone can help me in this search for knowledge i would greatly appreciatte it.

Thank you for your time,
AGM
