Default Long Term Commodity Trading

I want to invest in commodities but I anticipate my gains coming in the long term rather than short to medium. My problem is the only way I can find to invest is in futures, which as far as I can ascertain are much more suitable for short term traders.

Have I missed another opportunity, is my understanding incorrect? What way can I invest in commodities for the longer term?

Many thanks for any help!
