Microsoft Poses Long-Term Web Threat To Google, Yahoo: Report

Microsoft's soon-to-be-launched Windows Live Search and Windows Vista operating system could put real pressure on competitors Google and Yahoo! in the long term, according to a recent report from Lehman Brothers.

But short-term, the potential threats from Microsoft are adequately reflected in the stocks at current levels.

Lehman Brothers said Microsoft is focused on a longer-term services strategy, including opportunities in software-as-a-service, search, and advertising, with Windows Live and adCenter as key components.

Certainly Microsoft does pose a long-term threat - but Google know this and have already built up a $5 billion fighting fund to counter them.

Google is really a somebody when it comes to internet business. It is always on the go for more projects and more research is being done to maintain its position in cyberspace.

Be interesting to see how everything squares up - Microsoft are possibly too distracted developing Vista at present to really inject into a big search advertising campaign.

It's also been suggested to Microsoft to buy Yahoo! - an integration nightmare, but Microsoft would reap huge technological benefits, methinks.

Microsoft and Yahoo are giants in the cyberspace and they would make up a great team but Google has been establised in the search engines/googling aspect.
