Default Minimum Share purchase

Hello everyone,

Im planning to invest in shares. Is there any minimum numbers I need to purchase in a transaction? I would like to know what sort of account (with bank)needed to purchase shares.

Cheers,
Vidhya Rao

I don't believe there's a minimum - but do be aware that no matter what method you use to invest, you will have fees to pay on buying and selling, and these need to be factored in.

Depending on how much you have to invest it's worth seeking advice from a professional.

They do charge a fee, but they are there to make money like anyone in business and the way that they make money is by giving good advice that ends up in their clients making money.

But remember that there are costs when you buy shares and costs when you sell, so if you are considering buying a small amount of shares then consider the costs that are involved as part of the purchase.

...after all, you want to make money right?

when I first started investing I did learn that due to trading costs and the spreads involved I was not really putting enough money into each share. I would say that £300-£400 should be a minimum investment if you want a realistic chance of making a profit. Any less than this and you need the share price to really surge to eneable you to make a profit once trading costs and the spread have been taken into account.

I use www.iii.co.uk like Brian says, try to go for bigger trades as the fees can kill you sometimes.
