However you look at it a second home is a luxury. If you are in the position to buy two homes you are very lucky, so even if it's an investment it is a lusiry investment.

It is an investment at the moment - however, at some point 2nd properties are going to get taxed steeply I think. It's an income source the government hasn't tried to tap too hard, I don't think.

Really good point there, however I'm not sure that this Government will be focusing on taxing a 2nd home quite yet (it would be, excuse the pun, a little too close to home), but I'm sure it will happen in the future.
