Default Oil Over 70 Dollars - Time to look elsewhere

With oil up over 70 dollars and no change in sight I am starting to think about hedging with investment in ethanol as a fuel alternative. I think this will win big. During last earnings statements the big oil co's reaped HUGE profits for their shareholders but stock values plummeted. I don't see a likely end to this trend anytime soon because holders know that the co's have no future beyond higher costs and steeper curves to climb for exploration and sourcing.

Maybe but while the oil boys are reaping gains its an uptrend and I think its going to go up a while longer. While demand is high and prices are high those oil corporates are going to keep bringing it in. Just my opinion.

And, don't forget that they have Bush firmly in their pockets. Might have to see what's what after the elections.

Do you really think they hold Bush in their pocket?

With the amount of the market that he owns/has control over, I'd dispute that point.

It's more than 2 months since this thread started, and oil still hasn't looked like it has any chance of cooling anytime soon. Relatively flat in the early 70's, but we still have the summer driving season and OPEC are pumping at full capacity.

People need to stop looking at short term profit and invest in the alternative fuel industry. The return would be massive in a few years once Bush is out of office and whomever is next will (logically hopefully) pursue alt. fuel sources. People investing in these other sources woul ddrive the price of oil down potentially...

I'm inclined to agree with you on this one!

I'd agree - in the meantime, oil has been hitting record highs again.
