Default Onnline savings accounts

Does anyone use the High Yield Savings accounts online? I wonder if they are safe to try to place some of my funds into for safekeeping and to earn a small return as well. .

Savings accounts with banks are generally pretty safe, but if you're serious about putting money away for long periods then it can be too safe - sometimes you need to reap the rewards of some degree of risk over the long-term.

They are very safe, I rarely have heard of anyone having problems with online banking, except people typing their info onto other websites besides the bank.

Here's a secret - all banking is online, most people don't know it. The key to safety is to make sure that any funds you don't authorized to be removed from the account will be covered by the bank. This is usually covered in the fine print of any account. All the ones I have, I'm responsible only for the first $50 if my debit cards are stolen.

As for savings accounts online - I highly recommend them. An interest rate of over 5% is incredible! Even some of the regular banks have a high interest rate on some of their accounts. Look around and see what's there and take the highest you can get. Just don't pay any fees - make sure the account is free.

I have several online savings accounts and have never had any problems with them, as Brian says depending on the return you are after they may be too safe btu if its just for holding funds i cant see a problem. what accounts are you looking at specifically.

i believe ING currently offer a 6% isa so you may want to look at that also

I'm looking for a savings with no minimum. My local bank only offers 2%, and I know I can do better then that. I saw hsbcdirect offers 6% intro, 5% after april 30th.
