I was always told student loans were interest free (around 6 years ago), but it turns out they still tack on a £200 a year, which isn't much in the scheme of things I suppose. My question now, is this no longer the case and they have got even worse!?

Student loans in the UK have a lower rate of interest then a standard loan but they are certainly not interest free (as I can vouch for when I get my statement). I thought they are were all organised through the student loans company but I could be wrong, and I know you can get further development loans from banks. The good thing about going for the loan through the student loans company is that you don't pay it back until you are earning a certain amount and until a certain time after you graduate, and then it leaves your pay packet with tax etc so you do not even notice you are paying it back.

One of the best things I did as a student was opt for a student bank account with an interest free overdraft, which many banks will carry on for a set amount of time after you graduate to give you time to pay it off. This provides some extra cash if you need it but prevents you getting into trouble with credit cards etc.

In China, only poor student who cannot offer themselves the tuition can get loan issued by state-owned banks. which means student loan in China is just set off.

For credit card, the students at key university of China have a chance to get it, but we must pay it free in 30 days or we will pay a 0.003 daily interest( China Merchants Bank)

Student loans from the government are interest free except that they take interest equal to the official inflation rate. Which is pretty good as in effect that means the debt is dissapearing as the official rate is well below any real value. So while it may appear that your debt is increasing on paper in purchasing power terms its decreasing.

So the moral of the story, pay off your debt (UK GOVERNMENT STUDENT LOAN ONLY) as slow as possible and stick the extra into a savings account.

That's actually a potentially good plan - just don't spend the savings.

in my opinion you should go for the payday loans because it is easy to pay off and its interests rates are lower as comparison to the student loan.
