Default Student Loans

I might need money as a Student, I'm not going to buy a CC until after college as I would undoubtedly end up in debt. So whats a good plan for borrowing money at a student rate? In terms of avg. expenses and the such. Let's assume that my college is paid for.

Are you planning to study in the UK? If so, aren't the student loans still effectively interest-free? Or am I showing my age here?

In the Philippines, we don't have any student loan. However, if one comes from affuent families, they can have a credit card of their own, as a supplement of their parents' cards.

If you are based on Ireland, have you tried studentalive.com?

They have a financial advice section, otherwise you can do a little bit of research in the UK scholarships right here scholarship-search.org.uk

feline, i'm from the philippines, too, and i sure hope we get to have this kind of loan. i have seen firsthand the frustration of some of my friends when they were not granted a study-now-pay-later benefit, only to see it go to some students who were more financially blessed than they were (and not that academically good as they were--not that i'm discriminating them). anyway, a student loan sure would be helpful both for students and their parents.

When I was in school, my parent's got loans for me. My mom didn't do very well checking out the fine print. In the end I had a very high interest on several loans and no way to consoladate those loans. AND they became payabe as soon as I graduated. It made for a rough first few years!

In the United States there are several financial aids made up with government funds, such as the Stafford loans and Federal Perkins that seems to be a more viable solution for American Students.

However in other countries this type of financial aid is not available at all.

Even in the United States, student friendly loans may not be what they portray themselves to be. It was through some "program" that my mother got my loans.

If you have to borrow, don't wait until the last minute. Search around and find yourself the best deal available. If you have to borrow more, repeat the process. Don't just assume that what you used last time will be the best thing for you the second time around.

The very best thing to do is to NOT borrow. There are lots of scholarships and grants available to undergrad students. You might look into that first.

You may want to get a secured credit card, that way you don't go into debt, and you have atleast one acount thats getting age on you credit report. This will definately give you a head start once you finish college.

When I was still in school I used ww.nationalpayday.com, a check advance loan company, for emergency funds. I didn't have a cc, and didn't really want one. It worked for me as far as getting money for emergency stuff, like utilities when my (tiny) paycheck came later than the due date on the bill.

I have looed into those payday loans, and I think they have a high interest rate. You get screwed over one way or another.

Payday loans are a very very bad idea. It's just legal loan sharks.

With the number of companies running credit checks on potential employees, it is absolutely essential that you have at least one unsecured credit card. It seems that having NO credit history is worse than having a poor credit history. Go figure.

I personally think a good over draft limit coupled with an officail student loan from direct finance is all i need, My bank offers me interest free over draft of £2750 on my student account and are introducing a low interest student credit card at the begining of next month. If you dont really want to be paying any interest on any money you borrow i have known people to open more then one student account with various banks, as long as you've got money going in and out of them all you should be ok.

Now a day, to get higher education in abroad is very expensive, the medium families are unable to bear expanses. Then they thing about the education loan from financial bank which has lengthy documentation and lengthy process to issue the loan. That is time taken but now at internet you can easily get online loans without lengthy document. Just go through net and log on loan provider sites.

Payday loans is really a bad idea and they have high interest rates.

Why don't you use unsecured credit card.

I agree. They have really high interest rates and not that easy to manage.

Hi, is it possible to open a store...leasing the space with the use of student loans? I plan to attend school at the same time...this is for future reference...but I want to eventually open a small store and my credit rating isn't incredibly fabulous but with a co-signer I get the max for student loans. So I’m thinking I could do it that way and it would buy me some time before I’d have to pay the loans back.
