There was initial speculation after the Santander offer that AL might see a counter bid from another company.
While we've not seen one forthcoming, and though one may seem unlikely, there's a still buzz on the markets that overseas banks are viewing at least some UK banks as potentially good acquisitions. Same in the US.
So I guess the price is rising on that basis, though to be honest, I don;t think it's that much higher than when the Santander deal was first announced.
