Why are A & L shares rising above the agreed Santander offer?
Is there a nibble on the side lines.
Are they a sell, hold or buy/

There was initial speculation after the Santander offer that AL might see a counter bid from another company.

While we've not seen one forthcoming, and though one may seem unlikely, there's a still buzz on the markets that overseas banks are viewing at least some UK banks as potentially good acquisitions. Same in the US.

So I guess the price is rising on that basis, though to be honest, I don;t think it's that much higher than when the Santander deal was first announced.

Personally I wouldn't give it much thought - it's above my risk profile.

My investment strategy is to buy on stocks that look like they offer good capital appreciation prospects. I think once an offer is made on stock, that potential appreciation is diminished, and is probably better to just sell up in order to look for a new opportunity.

Just my 2c, though.
