To be honest I'm clueless, but I think it's key to shop around.

A cheaper option is practical for you would be to get your parents to include you on their insurance.

I also agree on that. Parents know better and so even if you're already 18, they still have much to teach you in almost everything.

the rate will probably depend on the car - the premiums will probably be very different according as to whether you were driving a Ford Fiesta as opposed to a Ferrari Testerossa.

Shop around, though - get quotes from a couple of borkers where possible.

I think one of the key areas of reducing premiums is the excess - in other words, you have the option to pay the first £50-£200 of any claim. The higher you make that, the less your premiums will be IMO.

Be prepared to pay a lot. However, the more of a family car and the older it is, the less your payment. Also, it depends on if you get full coverage or liability. Definitely check around and if you have taken drivers courses, let it be know. Furthermore, the higher you place your deductable, the cheaper your premium.

I think the teen drivers have to be insured too if they want to be compesated but on condtion that they own a driving liscence. No drivers liscence,no compensation because the insurance industry never wants to put themselves in a position of high risk too.

Many young people could find it impossible to afford motor insurance in future unless young driver accident rates are cut, Co-operative Insurance (CIS) has said.

On average, each day there are 35 road deaths and serious injuries among people aged 15-25. The cost of insuring young drivers has increased by 22% over the past three years, compared with just 2% for all other motorists. Premiums for young drivers could soon become unaffordable, CIS warned.

The Association of British Insurers (ABI) recently warned that rising personal injury claims and accidents involving uninsured drivers - many of them young - could lead to premiums increasing. Co-operative Insurance, along with road safety charity Brake, has produced an education pack for schools entitled Too Young To Die. The pack contains safety tips and dramatic first-hand accounts from accident victims (see below):
  • Speed - the number one temptation, the easiest rule to forget.
  • Not even one, not even once - its not just the amount of alcohol, or types of drugs you take. It's whether you drink or take drugs at all and drive.
  • The morning after calculator.
  • Focus - driving can lull the best of us into a false sense of security.
  • It takes three seconds to do up a seat belt.
  • Your vehicle, your choice.

Hi

There are a number of factors which you can control to lower the premiums for teen drivers:
  1. Purchase an older vehicle
  2. Smaller engine
  3. Fit an insurance approved immobiliser
  4. Avoid vehicle modifications
  5. Investigate the suitability of restricting cover to third party only or third party fire and theft.
  6. Go for a higher voluntary excess.
  7. Take the Pass Plus test.
  8. Build up your own no claims bonus quicker with a bonus accelerator policy.
Finally, Remember:-
  • Don’t ever lie to the car insurance company to get a cheaper premium.
