Default US savings bonds

I just started to buy some savings bonds for my daugther. She is a baby and I know they won't make a lot of money until she goes to college. But I figure it is at least a start and a "safe" investment.

Default Re: US savings bonds

Wouldn't a stock or other bond fund provide a better return. They are riskier, but with someone so young, the riskier the better. Savings bonds provide a weaker return and compounding than other funds.
