Default What would you do with $10,000?

What would you all do with $10,000?

I want it to be safe, with the highest ROI that I can get and the least amount of work on my part.

Any suggestions?

Perhaps just take note of the simple rules in investing: DIVERSIFY

Maybe you can set aside some of it for long-term investments and others for short term ones. Before going to invest in any of these, you must do a thorough research and get some advice from the experts. You can buy shares of stocks, oh, I guess this is better for you because it doesn't require much effort on your part. You can put in a bank and check their best offers, etc.

Yeah, I would divy it up and put a little here and a little there. I'm a fan of CD's in this situation, do to high returns that are almost 100% reliable. Then take a bit and blow it on a stock that you really believe in (and don't need to see the money for a few years or ever)

For a minute there I thought you were offering to the person with the best answer - oh well. One can dream.

I would use part of the money to start my own business (as a matter of fact, I was just telling my husband the other day that $10,000 would get me everything I needed to get going right).

If that wasn't a possiblity then I would have to agree with the diversify idea (although I think I would keep a percentage in a high yield savings account for a rainy day).

i would also choose to diversify or as they say, put my eggs in different baskets. i would keep some of the money but invest most of it on properties which i can flip so that i could roll over the money to other properties; that way, i could earn profits and add more to the initial $10,000 that i have.

I think having kids tends to make me a bit more conservative than I would have been several years ago. If someone had given me $10,000 BK, I would have definitely invested in my own business (probably not flipping, though). Now I want to be sure that there is a safty net - just in case.

Your observation is nothing that true kelkat, today kids like to invest and start making business before high school, the timeline for some us before thinking of the future.

I like the remodeling idea destiny - I'll pass on the clothes, though.

Is investing in a business or home improvement as valuable as savings or CD's or mutual funds? (in your opinion) and why?

I would pay off my debt first, and then I would give some to relatives, and the rest then I would invested into my online business.

It's not so much what to do with any sum - as much as when you'd like to draw it out.

But anything that spreads your risk can only be welcome with any significant investment, IMO.

Too true, Brian. Who doesn't want low risk with high yeilds .

When you are drawing it out is also a great point. Some investments will penalize you heavily if you withdraw the money to soon.

All and all, I guess there are dozen different things I'd do with $10,000, depending on the day.

You are right, I was planning to withdraw from a long-term investment which would take half the total investment yield if I do that

That's why it's important to diversify! Have a short term savings that has a lower interest but not withdrawal penalties, and then work up from there. Make yourself knowledgable about what is being done with your money, don't just rely on others. The more you know, the better off you will be!

Good advice at the beginning of 2007. I believe this is the right time to make some changes to our finances so we can appreciate financial changes at the end of the year.

Well, I use half of it to pay off my debt. No use having debt and paying the interest. Then I would invest the rest..and yes, I would diversify and put it in a few stocks. The trick also in playing the stock market is not getting emotionally attached..the people who aren’t emotionally attached succeed the most, apparently.

What would I do with $10,000? I would start by paying all of my debt, then I would share some with my immediate family, and finally I would invested wisely with it.
