Surely by 2018 virtually all cheques will have ceased to be simply through people no longer using them.

The banks are just trying to put a time line on it so as they can continue to scale back the "clearing" operation that was once massive. Direct Debits, Debit Cards and online payment systems such as PayPal have meant cheques are virtually redundant now. Small businesses are the real last bastion of the cheque.

Which? are just getting their knickers in a knot again about a non-problem.

Still it got them some precious PR.
