Default Would you pay for low usage?

Considering how competitive the credit card market has been, I find it incredible that Barclaycard - already slated by the director, when interviewed by MP's, as too expensive - is now looking to charge customers if they are seen not to use it enough:

I use a credit card for consumer protection - I pay it off at the end of every month to ensure I have no debt from it.

However, I hope some credit card companies are certainly going to allow for this sort of practice to continue - and if not, they'd better rewrite the level of consumer protections available with debit cards.

I think a low usage fee is well, frankly, disgusting. I know the credit card companies don't make any money if we don't use the cards but I'm always horrified at the concept of encouraging people to become deeper in debt.

Companies that charge for low usage are going to be outcompeted. It would be a reason for me to never use that card - I don't want to pay fees, hence, I don't want to risk it. So I'd never risk it, I'd get rid of the fee-causing cards rather than support them with more charges.

I have no problem with cancelling an inactive account, but not this.

They should be ashamed of themselves. It's rather like people who get mad because I didn't jump out of the shower to answer my phone. It's for MY use and I'LL decide when and how to use it.

Well, they're free to try it, but it would be a major reason for me to take my business elsewhere. I don't want to have to sweat using all my cards every single month.

I think the CC-Company that will attempt to charge customers for not using the card will soon be out of business.

That proposal is just stupid.

CC already charge an annual fee which is more then enough. Most people who have a card use it and it is idiotic to force them or tell them when and how to use it.

I seriously doubt that any CC-Company will move forward with such a fee.

Unfortunately this will hit those who can't move elsewhere due to poor credity etc. Let's hope this doesn't drive them to use cards they don't want to!

Hmm. I dont see why they would want to charge their customers who dont use their cards as much as they might in the future! But I agree with Reviewer. They will be out-competed if any one chooses to take this route.
