Homebase Pet Insurance Review

by Oliver Thompson

Homebase Pet Insurance

Homebase Pet Insurance

Homebase is part of Home Retail Group and is the UK’s second largest home improvement retailer.

They have recently ventured into the financial services sector, offering products from loans, credit options and insurance.

There are three grades of pet insurance offered – Silver, Gold or Platinum – and offer a range of protection for your pet, including cover for:

• Vets fees
• Third party liability
• Theft or straying
• Boarding fees

Each one comes with a 5% discount for buying online.

Customers also benefit from cover for early death from illness or injury, bereavement counselling and holiday cancellation cover.

Additionally, the payable excess does not rise as the pet gets older, and remains constant no matter how much the claim is.

Homebase Customer Experiences

Homebase offer a very competitive price with their pet insurance policies, particularly for the Silver price band. However, where companies offer low pricing, it often comes with a trade off in quality of customer service, and various complaints are raised about Homebase.

Various gripes abound regarding the level of customer service on offer and the difficulty in actually using the product.

The most common complaint refers to the claim process, which can be drawn out with a number of telephone conversations. Some customers point out how difficult it was to convince the company that their claim is covered.

Additionally, the Homebase website gives very little away in terms of details about the policy and it seems the company rely too heavily on old-fashioned paper forms than most people would like.

Overall Review for Homebase Pet Insurance

For cover at a cheerful price, Homebase are strong. However, as always, you only get what you pay for.

Don’t expect a super-quick service, even in the signing-up process.

All in all, Homebase are still new at the financial services game and perhaps this explains why the service is can seem a little raw under some claim conditions.

  1. Please read every detail on the conditions of Homebase Pet Insurance. My dogs insurance went up from approx £18 to £41.81 when he reached 10. Unfortunately he became very ill and I had to have him put to sleep. I sent the vets bill to Homebase who are keeping the £366. and will let me know how much more I owe them. Believe it or not they are going to carry on charging me for another years insurance.
Might be legal but its disgraceful. Try Tesco, I luckily have two other dogs insured with them and I do not believe that is their policy.
